Clarisonic Mia

Today, I was reading some cosmetic reviews on website. I was really interested in Clarisonic Mia!
Clarisonic Mia

Many people highly recommended it. The product washes your face cleaner than traditional hand washing. It removes any dirt from your skin. Your skin will be softer, healthier and more beautiful. Many people are satisfied with it!
I really want to get it! However, it is very expensive for me because I'm a student. Many people said that it was expensive but worth it. Hmm... The retail price is $119, and Ulta sells it for $119 as well. Amazon sells it for $100.70, but Ulta sometimes mail outs coupon. So, I think I should wait to buy it until I find a good deal.

If you buy it in Japan, there are only four different colors available. The retail price is 15,750 yen, which is about $196.87. That's even more expensive!

Old Navy Slot Game

Today, I went to Old Navy to get some tanks. Old Navy is having a sale of tanks at $2 each. The retail price is $5 though. Last year, I also bought some tanks and camisoles there with similar sale, and I have worn those almost everyday. That's why those have worn out from being washed so many times. So, I figured I could use new ones. Their sale came by at the perfect timing!
I downloaded Old Navy application last night because I heard that the application gave some coupons if you win the game. I downloaded and took snap shot of Old Navy logo. Then, the slot game started! I won $5 coupon. :) Yay! I bought three black tanks and a navy blue tank. The total price was $8, and I showed to cashier my $5 coupon on my smart phone. I ended up paying $3 plus tax! That's very cheap. :))

My First Paella

Last Sunday, I cooked paella for dinner. It was my first time to cook paella!

When I went to a Peruvian restaurant, I ordered Peruvian Paella, which islso called a Arroz con Mariscos. The paella I ordered was delicious. I thought I wish I could make it someday, but it seemed difficult to make it. I searched the recipe, and I bought saffron for first time. I ended up making paella and it was pretty good! However, I want to strive to make it better like the one I ate at the Peruvian restaurant.

Trying new recipe is fun for me. :)

Man-made Lake

Last Sunday, my husband and I went to North Lake in Irvine to walk around lake. Even though the lake is man-made lake, it was very beautiful.

There was a man-made lagoon next to the lake.
There were many kinds of birds at the lake. We were able to see a turtle which was swimming and a black bass. I was not able to take those picture though.

Six Month Anniversary

Today is the 6 month anniversary for my blog. Yay! My goal is that I will continue this blog
everyday for at least 6 more months. I hit the halfway point today. :) Now, writing my blog is my daily habit.  I'm really sure that I will accomplish my goal!

One of my favorite thing about my blog is that I've studied many English songs through my blog. I've searched lyrics and studied the meaning of many songs. I sometimes sing these songs. It forces me to learn many vocabularies. However, previously I posted the song "Daydream Believer" in Japanese along with the English one this month. I sometimes sang the song in Japanese without realizing it! The lyrics in Japanese has more impact for me because I'm Japanese. I can't get rid of the Japanese lyrics from my head. After that I decided that I should only post songs in English. :P I want to update more English songs anyway. Next time my husband and I will visit Japan, I want to go to Karaoke and sing as many English songs as I can! :) I look forward to it.

My Favorite Korean Restaurant

Last Sunday, my husband and I went to Korean restaurant for lunch. When we arrived there, there was no costumer because it was 11 a.m. The restaurant just opened. Because we woke up early morning, we were already hungry at 11 a.m.

My most favorite thing about Korean restaurant is that we can eat as many side dishes as we want for free! Most of them are made of vegetable. I think it's healthy.

When I go to Korean restaurant, I almost always order sundubu. Hehe. I ordered hot oyster sundubu!
We ate a lot there. After coming back home, I took a nap for a while. :)

My New Computer

My auctions ended today, but these didn't sell at all. That's why I didn't have to contact with my customer this morning. But I woke up early anyway. Then, my husband and I headed toward Fry's. According to my husband, Lenovo computers were selling with a big discount at Fry's. He wanted to buy it for me because he thought I was wasting my time with using my four years old computer. He said new computer's performance is very fast. We looked for the computer which my husband had seen on an online advertisement. But we couldn't find it. He asked the staff if they had it. The staff checked the advertisement and said that they had some stock but it didn't display. We bought a new Lenovo computer for $347. It was very reasonable price, wasn't it? Frankly, I don't know if I needed to buy a new computer because I can still use my old computer. Humm... I might save my time with high performance computer form now on.

Package from Clinique

I got a package from Clinique today. Yay! Last Sunday, I found a good deal with Clinique online. Clinique has been offering a Free 7 Piece Bonus Set with any $23.50 purchase!

I'm a big fan of Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. So, I purchased it for $23.50. The price was perfect! I also had a coupon code for free shipping. I just paid $23.50 plus tax $1.82.

When I was in Japan, I was also using this product. I bought it at a department store many times back then. 125ml bottle in Japan was about $70. The price of it in Japan is three times more expensive than in the U.S. I always feel that it is a bargain!

The product I ordered was wrapped with very cute Clinique tissue paper!

The cosmetic bag was bigger than I expected. I like this beautiful retro feel flower print.

I was able to choose the color of eyeshadow and lipstick. The color I chose was nude. Now, it's already sold out though. Hehe... The package of eyeshadow is metallic and  its reflection is like a mirror. It's so gorgeous, isn't it? I have never used Clinique eyeshadow. I can't wait to use it!

Difference Between Former and Old

Today was the last day of spring semester at my college. I took my tutoring. I asked my tutor how to differentiate between "former" and "old". I know both meaning, but I sometimes confuse the two.

"former"
・ my former teacher
・ my former co-worker (ex co-worker)
・ a former owner of my car
・ the former president of the U.S.

"old"
・ my old textbook
・ my old computer
・ an old student / an former student
・ my old friend (know for long time) / my former friend (not my friend anymore)
・ my old school / my former school

After class, my husband and I went to see our dentist. I have bleached my teeth at home five times, but the color of my teeth haven't changed dramatically. My dentist told me I should bleach at least 9 more times in order to get the best result. Frankly, I don't want to bleach my teeth anymore because bleaching irritates my gums. He told me I should use less amount of bleach to avoid gum irritation. I will try bleaching 9 more times to get whiter teeth.

He figured out the problem by browsing the Internet. According to my husband, the problem was a hard drive defect. He returned it to Best Buy. Then, he bought a new Toshiba laptop. It has a 17.3 inch moniter and was under $500 just like the HP laptop he returned. So far, it seems fine. He said its performance is faster than HP laptop that he returned. The Early Bird Catches the Worm

This morning, some of my products were sold through my auction. Because of that, I had to wake up early this morning. After contacting with my customer, my husband and I went shopping as usual. Few days ago, I got an email from my apartment office. They sent a coupon for free coffee at Peet's Coffee and Tea. We went there to get free coffee. They gave me a small size iced coffee for free after just showing the mobile coupon on my smart phone. Yay!
The early bird catches the worm!
My auction makes me busy, but I'm glad that I can be an early bird! I can enjoy the rest of my Sunday.

Daydream Believer

Today, I listened to the song, Daydream Believer. The song was first released by The Monkees in 1967.

The Monkees / Daydream Believer

I'm familiar with the song because some Japanese singers have covered it. In Japan, The Timers, which is one of Japanese bands, first covered it in 1989.

Lyrics

Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The six o'clock alarm would never ring,
But six rings and I rise;
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings.

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it meanTo a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

You once thought of me
As a white knight on his steed.
Now you know how happy I can be.
Oh, and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend,
But how much, baby, do we really need?

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

The Last Day of Our Meeting

Today, I went to cafe to meet my friend for conversation session as usual Thursday. My friend is going to get a surgery next week. After that, she and her sons are going to travel to Korea for a month. She told me that that was the last meeting until she comes back from Korea. After studying a reading book together, she took me to Korean restaurant. We had sundubu for lunch. Then, we walked around a university which her son is going from fall semester. On the campus, they were having clearance sale. Many university products were 75% off. My friend bought some t-shirts and key holders for her family.

After saying good bye to her, I stopped by at my bank to make some deposits. I said to a teller, "Could I put these into my saving account?" It was my first time to go to bank by myself. I usually go there with my husband. Hahaha. But everything went smoothly. I can go there without my husband from now on. The teller said, "You might be interested in it." I Should Incoporate Exercising into My Normal Life

My back pain is getting better and better. I have been exercising for my back pain since few days ago. I think that the cause is from studying for many hours. :P I was sitting for many hours, and I was sitting in the same position. That caused stiffness in my back muscle, hamstring and below. And also because I don't exercise on a regular basis, which is why my muscle became weak gradually.
How can I continue to exercise after recovering from back pain? I thought I should incorporate exercising into my normal life. I decided to exercise while I watch youtube, because I watch youtube everyday. I think it's a good idea. :)

How to Use While

Today, I went to college to take my tutoring. I asked my tutor some grammar.
Last night, I looked over my old textbook, which I used two years ago at another ESL school. The ESL school had variety of classes, which were scaled between level 2 to 6. I started at level 3 class. I went up a level every three months. While I was studying at the school for a year, I ended up finishing level 5 class. I looked over the level 5 textbook last night. It had been two years since I used the textbook. Keeping up with the class was very hard for me two years ago. Since then, my English has been improving. I was expecting that the textbook was not difficult any more. When I looked over the textbook, I was shocked. I had thought that I was pretty good at grammar, but there were many advanced grammar, which I learned, and I already forgot. I still find it difficult to study the textbook. I'll restudy the textbook on my own. I was only glad that the reading in the textbook was easy for me event though some grammar was still difficult.
I studied how to use "While" with my tutor.

You can use while in order to present contrasting information, especially in writing.
For example,

・ While Leo prefers a big breakfast, I just have coffee.
・ While I like sandwiches, she dislikes them.
・ While I want to buy a red car, my husband prefers a blue car.

I should sometimes use the word of "While" in my blog. I found that I should review grammar more from the textbook.

・ restudy : verb / 再学習する、再勉強する
・ while : ~なのに、~ではあるものの、~だが、~とはいえ、しかし一方

The Reason Why I Should Exercise Regularly

I have had backache since yesterday morning. I usually go to the library to study for three hours or so after class, but I didn't go to the library today. That's because I couldn't carry too much stuff today. When I go to the library, I take my netbook, my tumbler full of tea and textbooks for nursing and ESL. I took only my ESL textbook and pencil case to class, but it was too heavy for me because my back condition was serious.

Five years ago, I got a severe backache when I carried my patient, who was overweight. My backache got worse and worse. Finally, I was not able to walk, get up, nor change my body position. It was my hardest time ever. I had to spend time in my bed all day long for two weeks. I thought I was very miserable. I wanted to work but I couldn't do anything. Then, I was diagnosed with lumbar disc herniation. My doctor told me that if I were not a nurse, he would recommend me to get a surgery. He said that I knew how to control and how I should avoid getting backaches. I did rehabilitation by myself at home. I really wanted to go back to work. After a time my backache got better and better. Then, I recovered and I went back to my normal life.

I know if I exercise regularly, I can avoid this condition, but I tend to be lazy and I don't enjoy exercising. :P
Even though I don't like to exercise, I have to do it for my health. I wouldn't want to go back to when I was in bed all day long.

 Today's Vocabulary
・ tumbler full of ~ : ~がたっぷり入ったタンブラー
・ after a time : すると、しばらくすると
・ tend to : ~しがちである、~する傾向がある

New Laptop

Today, my auction ended, and I sold two products. Yay! I contacted my customers and confirmed these payments. I'm going to send these out at the post office tomorrow morning.
And I also auctioned off some more products online today.

My husband bought a new laptop at Best Buy today. It has a 17.3 inch moniter. It's pretty big! He likes watching movie on the computer. So, he decided to buy a laptop with a bigger screen. I think computers have been cheaper these days. His new HP laptop was under $500 including one year warranty! My husband's old Sony Vaio computer was over $2,200 in Japan four years ago. Even though it was very expensive, we thought it was normal for a computer at the time. Actually, computers in Japan are more expensive than the ones in the United States even though it's a Japanese brand.

My computer is already three years old. I don't think it will last much longer. Even if my computer breaks down, I will pay only a quarter of what I paid for a computer four years ago. So, I won't hesitate to buy a new computer when needed. :)

 Today's Vocabulary
・ confirm : verb / 確認する ( Pronunciation is kənfə'ːrm )
・ payment : noun / 支払い
・ send out : phrasal verb / 発送する
・ hesitate : verb / ちゅうちょする、ためらう  ( Pronunciation is he'zite`it )
  ex) I didn't hesitate at all. : 私は全くためらわなかった。

The Result of the Assessment Test

After advanced conversation class, I went to cafe to meet my friend for conversation session as a usual Thursday. I told my friend that I took my assessment test on Tuesday but was not able to do so well. She told me, "You can take the assessment test every 6 months. Better luck next time!" So, I will probably take the test at the end of the year again. I will pay more attention to the time next time! I'll never make the same mistake again. ;(
I just checked the result of the test. My placement recommendation was all advanced class! Somehow my assessment test result was not as bad as I expected. But I can't find out my actual score. I'm wondering how they place students according to the test result.

These Expression Challenges Me

Today, my teacher gave back my test which I took last Monday. I did well on my test. Then, he handed out our current grades to us. My overall class rank was number 1. Yay! It was the first time we received our grades this semester, he handed out them about four times last semester though. I was not sure whether or not I was doing well. But I did! Hehe...

Yesterday, I asked my tutor how to use "it feels..." I still find it difficult to use that expression. I should use it more frequently, so that I will get used to it.

For example...
・ I felt that the earthquake was strong.
 It felt strong.
・ I feel that the table is hard.
 It feels hard.
・ I feel that these boots are heavy.
 These feel heavy.

I also find it difficult to use "I find it difficult to ( verb ) ... " I'm using it now though. :D Haha... My tutor said this expression is as same as "I feel challenged by (noun) ..."

・ I find it difficult to speak English.
  I feel challenged by English.
・ I find it difficult to read this book.
I feel challenged by this reading book.

I also find it difficult to use the word "challenge."

・ It is challenging.
・ The book challenges me.

Assessment Test

After advanced conversation class, I studied at library for an hour today. Then, I took my tutoring for an hour. After that, I went back to the library to study. While I was studying, I felt cold breeze towards my desk. I felt a little cold. I endured the chill for an hour, but I ended up giving up my study because I wanted to avoid catching a cold. Then, I had lunch in my car. It's drizzling today. So, it was not hot inside car. After eating lunch, I was planning on going back to library again. But I took a nap for an hour and half in my car instead. :P After that, I went to the building to take English assessment test. It has been two years since I took the test. The listening section was not too difficult for me, the recording spoke very quickly though. The reading section was also not too difficult, but I ran out of time before finishing all question. :(( I was stunned. I wasn't paying attention to the time I've spent reading the excerpts. I was very disappointed in myself. Then, I wrote my essay. Because I was disappointed, I wasn't able to concentrate and I felt that I couldn't do well on my writing test as well.

Anyway, I was really disappointed in myself. :( I expected to do well after two years of studying... I think my English skill is not as good as I hoped.
I should pay more attention to the time when I have a chance during a test next time. And I have to study more.
