Starbucks Japan Geography Series City Mug - Hokkaido

As I mentioned in my previous entries, Starbucks Japan released new Starbucks City Mugs, Starbucks Japan Geography Series, in October this year. When my husband was on his business trip in Japan in November, he bought some new Starbucks city mugs there. Today, I'm going to share this Starbucks Japan Geography Series Hokkaido Mug with you.

New Starbucks Japan City Mugs are named Starbucks Japan Geography Series "Our daily story." As its name, typical life in Hokkaido are pictured on this mug. When I lived in my college dorm for three years in Japan, my roommates were from Ishikari city and Kitami city in Hokkaido. Actually, many of my classmates were also from cities in Hokkaido such as Sapporo, Obihiro and Otaru. That's why I often heard about Hokkaido from my friends and was able to often have famous Hokkaido foods. :) I am familiar with Hokkaido dialects in this mug indeed. :)

When my husband and I traveled in Hokkaido in 2008, we saw some wild deers many times while driving. We were really surprised that large wild animals live close to roads because we had never seen wild deers in Japan until then.

Hokkaido is the northernmost of Japan's 47 prefectures, so it's the coldest place in Japan in winter. In this picture, the woman is pulling a snow sled which her children is on in snowy day.  "Zaku zaku" is a sound of walking on snows.

"Shakkoi" is Hokkaido dialect I've often heard from my friends, and it means cold. In this picture, two children are playing with an icicle and saying, "shakkoi (しゃっこい)." Let's say, when you touch cold water, you can also say, "shakkoi!"

The yellow train is called Sasara Denshya (ササラ電車) and is running to sweep snows in Hokkaido. There are two brown bears, which are called higuma (ヒグマ), pictured. Higuma is a breed of the largest bears in Japan and lives in only Hokkaido.

"Namara" is another Hokkaido dialect and means very. My friends from Hokkaido often said, "Namara Oishi! (なまら美味しい!)" It means very delicious!  When you see a cute girl, you can say, "Namara kawaii! (なまらカワイイ!)" Which means very cute!
