Trader Joe's The Crispy Crunchy Mochi Rice Nuggets

      When I go to Trader Joe's, I always enjoy checking their newly released items. :)

     Last weekend, I found that my local Trader Joe's was selling Japanese snacks!

Trader Joe's The Crispy Crunchy Mochi Rice Nuggets

      It's Trader Joe's the Crispy Crunchy Mochi Rice Nuggets. In Japanese, it's called okaki (おかき).

クランチ：crunchy

クリスピー：crispy

       As you can read its ingredients, it was made from rice, palm oil, sea salt and sunflower lecithin. I think they used sticky rice, which is also called sweet rice. As I mentioned in my previous entry, mochi is made of Japanese sticky rice. When I was a child in Japan, my friend's mother deep-fried mochi and served okaki as children's snacks for us. Until then, I hadn't known that okaki was very easy to make! If you want to make okaki, just cut mochi into small pieces and deep-fry them. Then, sprinkle salt, and enjoy your homemade okaki.

       Trader Joe's okaki tasted pretty good.  They were crunchy and crispy. :)

      By the way, my favorite Japanese okaki is nure okaki (ぬれおかき). Nure (ぬれ) in Japanese means wet, so it's not crispy. I like its soy sauce flavor. :)
