  How to Use Saborino Products

Saborino Facial Powder is only limited in quantity, so if you are in Japan this summer or fall, you should check them there. Saborino products can be purchased at Plaza and Loft. You probably can find ones at Lawson convenience stores and some drugstores in Japan as well, but their products are always too popular, so they might be sold out at the stores soon though.

How to Grow Green Onion in Your Kitchen

Every week, I purchase some bunches of green onions at my local supermarkets. I cut green onion finely for miso soup, but I discarded the roots. 10 days ago, I placed green onion bulbs in a small amount of water to grow green onion in my kitchen. As I mentioned in my previous entry, I tried to grow vegetable in my balcony when I lived in Japan, and I've known that growing green onion in your kitchen is super easy, but I just haven't done it since I moved to the U.S. Last week, I really enjoyed seeing how they grew in my kitchen for the first time in many years. :)

What You'll Need
Green Onion Bulbs
Glass (I used a 4oz-Maiso jar.)
Paper Towel (Optional)
Water

Day 2

Day 10
After 10 days, I was able to harvest some of them and top it over miso soup. :)

Starbucks Protein Salad Bowl - Chicken & Quinoa Salad

Today, my husband purchased this Starbucks Protein Salad Bowl, Chicken & Quinoa Salad, for me on his way back home. He told me that he had it for lunch before and liked it.

I like Starbucks's foods such as sandwiches and panini but didn't like their cake pops because these were excessively sweet to me. I liked this protein salad very much since it had many kinds of vegetables! It was my first time to have jicama, Mexican turnip, which was cut into strips. First, I thought jicama looked and tasted like Japanese radish. In Japan, there is daikon salad, which is fresh daikon strips with wafu or yofu salad dressing. This red dressing, a medium-spiced chile vinaigrette, was not hot to me.
Grilled chicken, raised without antibiotics, is tossed with a medium-spiced chile vinaigrette for a lively but not over the top kick. Mixed with fresh greens, tomatoes, roasted corn, black beans, jicama, paprika and feta.

Funny Video in Gyarugo - Omusubi Koroin - Japanese Fairy Tale

Gyaru (ギャル) is Japanese young women. Gyaruo (ギャル男) is Japanese young men who love men's gyaru fashion. Some gyaru people in Tokyo make new words, which are sometimes called gyarugo (ギャル語), gyaru language.

If you are learning Japanese, I don't recommend to use gyarugo because it's extremely casual, and it can be only understood by some gyaru people, so most Japanese people don't know the meaning of the words they use. When I found this YouTube video, which is Omusubi Kororin in Gyarugo, I thought it's so funny! Omusubi kororin is one of famous Japanese fairy tales. Yet, I couldn't understand most of gyarugo in this video. It was like foreign language to me, but it has Japanese subtitles, and I learned some new words from this video.

If you want to learn Japanese language from Japanese fairy tale, you can watch this video. This is also Omusubi Kororin (おむすび ころりん) but it is in regular Japanese language. :) By the way, omusubi (おむすび) means rice balls. Kororin (ころりん) is Japanese onomatopoeia and means rolling. It's a famous Japanese fairy tale, and I believe that most Japanese people know the story of Omusubi Kororin.

This video is Omusubi Kororin in English.

How to Make Egg and Broccoli Salad

Today, I made my favorite egg and broccoli salad for dinner. :) When I moved to the U.S., I was surprised that people eat raw broccoli salad. Japanese people usually don't eat raw broccoli. Indeed, I've never seen raw broccoli salad in Japan. To me, raw broccoli is too firm for even salad. After living in the U.S. for years, I can now eat raw broccoli salad at restaurants, yet I prefer to eat Japanese style broccoli salad at home.  Anyway, I'm going to share how to make egg and broccoli salad with you. :)

Ingredients (8 Servings)
2 Bunches of Broccoli (Cut the head into florets, and slice the stem into 1/4 inch.)
8 Boiled Eggs (Peel and chop)
8 Tablespoons of Japanese Mayonnaise
2 Teaspoon of Mustard
Nip of Salt and Black Pepper

1. Put broccoli into boiled water and cook them for 30 to 90 seconds. (Cook broccoli florets for 30 seconds and broccoli stems for 90 seconds.)

Right after taking them out from boiled water, put them into iced water. Immerse them in iced water for several minutes until cold in order to stop the cooking process.

Drain off the water from broccoli.

Use a salad spinner to remove excess water.

 2. Mix mayonnaise, mustard, and salt and black pepper in a large bowl. Then, add eggs and mix them lightly.

3. Add broccoli and stir them.

4. Enjoy!

Yakisoba, Japanese Fried Noodles & Japanese Noodle Dishes My Husband Cooked

This week, my husband cooked yakisoba (焼きそば), Japanese fried noodles. I always love yakisoba he cookes because his yakisoba always has some vegetables. :) This time, he added green bell peppers, cabbage, eggs and sausages. Then, he topped it with dried bonito flakes (かつおぶし), aonori flakes (青のり) and Japanese mayonnaise (マヨネーズ). It tasted perfect! :)

When it comes to noodle dish, he is very good at cooking. So many years ago, I tried to cook yakisoba for lunch in Japan because I thought it seemed easy. However, it didn't taste as good as one he cooked some how. That's why he cooks Japanese noodle dishes in our home. If you check What My Husband Cooked, one of my blog labels, you will see he has cooked many kinds of Japanese noodle dishes. :) Maybe, I should learn how he cooks those someday. ;)

These are some of Japanese noodle dishes he cooked. All of them were so delicious. :)

3 Best Japanese Nyueki, Japanese Facial Lotion

Nyueki (乳液) is Japanese milky or creamy lotion which you are supposed to apply after keshosui (化粧水). If you use eye cream and beauty serum, you can apply before applying nyueki. If you have dry skin, you can apply facial cream after applying nyueki.

Facial Cleansing (洗顔)
Eye Cream (アイクリーム) and Beauty Serum (美容液)
Nyueki (乳液)
Facial Cream (クリーム)

Keshosui and nyueki are essential skincare items for Japanese women. Keshosui, which is like "water," is used to hydrate skin, and then you are supposed to apply nyueki, which is like "a lid." Nyueki is used to prevent water evaporation. It can keep your skin moisturized all day long.

Today, I'm going to share three best nyueki in Japan with you. These are highly rated on Amazon Japan and @cosme, a Japanese cosmetic review site, and often won the best beauty awards in Japan.

No.1 Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk by Daiichi Sankyo 第一三共ヘルスケア  ミノン アミノモイスト 保湿乳液
100g for 1900yen
Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk
Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk has been selected the best nyueki award by Japanese beauty magazines and @csome many times. It was ranked number one as the best nyueki award of 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013 by @cosme. As I mentioned in my previous entry, 3 Best Japanese Facial Sheet Masks Won Beauty Awards in Japan, Minon is a well known brand which makes skin care products for people who have very sensitive skin. Many Japanese beauty products are usually gentle to the skin as compared to US products. Yet, I believe that Minon is the most gentle skin care product in Japan.

Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk
The texture of Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk is thicker than regular nyueki. Many people reviews that it improves your skin condition. It keeps your skin moisturized all day long. It improves skin elasticity and reduces winkles.
Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk
You can find Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk at most drugstores in Japan.

No. 2 EXAGE White Rise Milk II by Albion アルビオン  エクサージュホワイト ピュアホワイト ミルク II
110g for 3000yen
200g for 5000yen
EXAGE White Rise Milk II
Exage White Rise Milk II was ranked number two as the best nyueki award of 2016 by @cosme. Exage nyueki has been very popular in Japan. Before Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk won the best beauty award in 2013, Exage nyueki had ranked number one as the best nyueki for many years. Compared to Minon Amino Moist, Exage products are pretty expensive and can be only found at department stores in Japan. If you love luxury beauty products, I think you will love Exage skin care products.

Exage nyueki is very unique. As I mentioned above, nyueki is applied after keshosui. However, Exage nyueki is supposed to be used before keshosui. According to Albion, Exage nyueki makes your skin softer and ready to absorb keshosui better. Many people review that Exage nyueki truly improves skin condition!

Facial Cleansing (洗顔)
Exage Nyueki (エクサージュ乳液)
Keshosui (化粧水)
Eye Cream (アイクリーム) and Beauty Serum (美容液)
Facial Cream (クリーム)

How to Apply Albion Nyueki

Albion recommend to take three pumps of nyueki at a time and apply it with facial cotton.

Exage White Rise Milk II is whitening nyueki. Some people review that it brightens your skin and minimizes pores. If you are looking for whitening skincare, Exage White line might work for you.

No.3 EXAGE Moist Advance Milk III by Albion  アルビオン  エクサージュ アクティベーション モイスチャア ミルク III
110g for 3000yen
200g for 5000yen
EXAGE Moist Advance Milk III
Exage Moist Advance Milk III was ranked number three as the best nyueki award of 2016 by @cosme. You can choose Exage Moist Advance Milk from three types, I, II and III. When you go to Albion counter located in department stores in Japan, Albion staff advises you which one is perfect for your skin type. I is for oily skin type. II is for combination skin type, and III is for dry skin type.
Just like Exage White nyueki, Exage Mist Advance Milk is also applied before keshosui in order to makes your skin softer and ready to absorb keshosui better. Many people review that it improves skin elasticity and reduces winkles! If you have dry skin, Exage Moist Advance Milk III might work for you.

Golden Curry Extra Hot - What My Husband Cooked

Yesterday, my husband told me that he wanted to cook Japanese curry with Golden Curry Sauce Mix Extra Hot. Golden Curry, a Japanese curry sauce mix, has four spicy levels, Mild, Medium Hot, Hot and Extra Hot. Unlike Thai curry, Japanese curry is not extremely hot usually. We usually choose Medium Hot, but this time, he chose Extra Hot one. This package of Golden Curry Sauce Mix is for 12 servings of Japanese curry.
Golden Curry Extra Hot

He cooked Japanese curry very late at last night. It was like our midnight snack, but we ended up eating a lot because Japanese curry is always so delicious! We cannot stop eating it until we are full. By the way, Golden Curry Extra Hot smelled very spicy. It was very hot to us, but I think that it was still not as hot as Thai curry medium hot. If you want to try to cook Japanese curry, you can check out my previous entry, Top 5 Most Popular Japanese Curry Sauce Mix. Cooking Japanese curry is very easy (I first learned how to make Japanese curry when I was in an elementary school in Japan.), it has directions on the back of Japanese curry sauce mix package, so I think anyone can make it successfully. :)
