Before and After - Hallway Flooring

Last month, my husband and I finally replaced old wall-to-wall carpet to new luxury vinyl planks. As I mentioned in my previous entry, when we purchased our home, we decided to replace all old carpet to new laminate flooring, but the HOA contractor recommended us to replace it to vinyl flooring because laminate is not 100% waterproof. He told us that if the ceiling leaked due to extreme heavy raining like previous California's historic winter storms, laminate floor would get water damage easily and would need to be replaced it again. There is waterproof laminate flooring in the market now, but it only withstands water for 30 hours or so. Since we are sometimes out-of-town for traveling for days especially in winter, which is a rainy season in California, we decided to install vinyl flooring for a hallway, living room and kitchen.

I forgot to take a photo of entire hallway with old carpet flooring. I only have this photo below. This was a part of hallway of the photo I took on the day we purchased this home.
July 2016 (Before)
We painted the cabinets white and installed t-bar pulls last year. He replaced old ceiling light to new LED recessed lights in February this year. Now, this hallway has warm and cozy look by replacing flooring! I really love our hallway now.

I'm going to share how we installed vinyl flooring with you.

Remove Carpet
After removing a wall-to-wall carpet, he repaired minor cracks in concrete flooring.

Lay Underlayment
We purchased this underlayment for vinyl float flooring at our local Lowes. It reduces walking noise and keeps floors feeling warm.
FloorComfort 100-sq ft Premium 1.5mm Flooring Underlayment
It was very easy to install. :)

Install Vinyl Planks
We went to our local Lowes to purchase luxury vinyl planks.

We chose this one, Shaw 5.9-in x 48-in Resort Teak Locking Luxury Vinyl Plank.

Laying vinyl planks was so much easier than installing laminate flooring! We finished it in a few hours. :) Then, we installed shoe molding to cover the gaps between the walls and floor. It was also easy because we had done it for our second bedroom before.
After

After installing vinyl planks in the hallway, we also installed the same flooring in our kitchen. I'll write about it next time. :)  By the way, we are also replacing living room flooring now.
